Summary: Garbage
Comment: Save your money, this is a cheaply made product. It broke after 3 uses!!! I took it apart and the inside is made of cheap junk that simply can not survive even the smallest of jarring from the door. The concept is excellent, but the implementation if garbage!

Summary: A plastic toy
Comment: This is a waste of money - it broke on the second use. I took it a part to find out why and the entire locking force was applied via a sharp edge metal lever held in place by a 1/16 in plastic pin. It simply self destructed.

Summary: Just too flimsy to rely on
Comment: We travel in third world countries and ordered this to provide a little more security while we're sleeping. The materials used in this lock are just too flimsy to inspire much confidence. The main body is plastic. The metal bar which fits into the door jamb is thin and flexible so easily bends out of the way when pressure is put on the door. The serrations on the bar are not deep, so don't promise much strength. While none of these locks can be expected to withstand someone trying to kick the door in, this one, while prettily-designed is overly expensive and unimpressive. We're going to try a few others.
By the way, in returning this item, which we consider unsatisfactory, Amazon will charge us doubly: the cost to return the item to Amazon and also charge us for what we originally saved with our "Super Saver" shipping. The end result is far from the full refund other merchants offer.

Summary: really good so far
Comment: I got this for additional security for my own room in my apartment, and so far it's really easy to use and it's worked really well. The black casing and the red handle are plastic, but the actual bar that you line up in the door frame is metal. So it seems sturdy so far. It's got these gears that hook when you move the handle, which keep the whole structure in place. It's *really* easy to use, and has the same effect as lining up something heavy to block the door right near the doorknob. It installs between the door and the door frame, right where the door knob catch lines up. You do have to put it in place and remove it every time you want to use it - it doesn't automatically attach to the door frame or anything. You can use it whether or not you have a deadbolt.
The only two issues I have with it are:
- I didn't see any information about which way it goes into the doorframe when I bought this, so I took a chance. It'll work correctly from your side of the door if you have to pull the door towards you in order to open it. If you have to push the door to open it, this lock won't work for you, because the installation needs to happen on the other side.
- Another thing to watch out for is the structure of your door frame, where the door handle or additional locks are, etc.. If you have an oddly shaped door frame (like it's really rounded, or heavily decorated or something), or a large door handle, you might have some difficulty getting this to work - the parts may not line up correctly, or the lock may not have anything to settle against. It works really well so far on standard door frames.
I say try it out anyway - chances are, you have a door where you can use it, and so far it's worked well.
